Ogun Police Arrest Man For Allegedly Stealing Two Children During Church Service


Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command on Friday arrested one Sakiru Famuyiwa at the Ijeja area of Abeokuta, the capital, for allegedly stealing two children during a church service.
Famuyiwa alongside one other suspect now at large allegedly sneaked into the children’s department of Celestial Church of Christ, Ijeja, and stole two children, who are two and three years old.





He was subsequently arrested following a distress call received by policemen at Ibara Divisional Headquarters.

“On their way out with the stolen children, a vigilant member of the church sighted them and raised alarm, consequence upon which the congregants pursued them and apprehended one of them,” the statement said.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO Ibara Division, CSP Nasirudeen Oyedele, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where the suspect was rescued from an angry mob who were about to lynch him,” it added.
 
Commissioner of Police in the state, Lanre Bankole, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation.
He also ordered that the accomplice must be hunted and brought to book.
